Intermediate Team Win Out with Late, Late Points

20 Apr 2014

The second round of league fixtures saw the intermediate side hosting Na Piarsaigh on Easter Sunday afternoon. The Joes were slow out of the blocks and allowed a dominant Na Piarsaigh to race into a 1-4 to no score lead after twenty minutes, with a David Boyle goal the highlight of some wonderful play by the Dundalk outfit. The Joes first score eventually came from Conall Smyth as the home side tried to make a dent in their opponents lead. Both teams traded points late on in the half to leave the Joes trailing 1-6 to 0-3 at the break.

It was a completely different Joes outfit in the second half as they clawed back Na Piarsaighs lead in the opening 20 minutes of the half, with the aid of some great free taking from Alan Mc Kenna. David Boyles sixth point of the day edged the town team clear late on as the tide sung again, but there was to be one last twist, as Conal O Hanlon sent over two late points to give the Joes a thrilling last gap victory.
