Goals Win Game as U13s Miss Out

St. Josephs hosted round two of the League versus Young Irelands in a high scoring game that saw the Joes get off to a good start when Jack Barron and Ciaran Johnston combined to setup Conor McKeown for the first goal of the game. Young Irelands were quickly on the scoreboard with a goal and a point. Joes hit back with points from Conor Neary and Jack Barron with Young Irelands again responding with 1-1, before Bryan Knipe got through for a goal to leave the sides level at 2-2 each after 15 mins. The Irelanders took control in midfield and laid siege to the Joes goal with Dylan McGrory coming to the Joes rescue with a number of fine saves. However the Irelanders got through for three goals before Bryan Knipe gave the Joes hope with a fine goal. A point from Conor Neary was cancelled out by two further points from the Irelanders.

Half Time Score: Young Irelands 5-4 St. Josephs 3-3.


Young Irelands opened the second half with two points before Jack Barron scored two excellent goals to leave the Joes just three points behind. The Irelanders again took control to score 2-3 before the Joes managed to add points from Ciaran Johnston, Josh Mackin and Conor Neary. Again the Irelanders hit the Joes net and added a point before Ciaran Johnston and Jack Barron finished with points for the Joes.

Young Irelands were deserving winners on the day while the young Joes squad kept going to the end with Aaron Neary, Paul Coyne and Donal Johnston starring in the Joes in defence. Conor Neary and Ciaran Johnston played excellent football in midfield while again it was Jack Barron who led the attack and Bryan Knipe took his goals well.
