Joes Play in Croke Park

03 Jul 2010

What a difference a year makes and for Louth all roads now lead to Croke Park. It is not just our county footballers who will play in Croke in July, the Joes will be well represented at underage level.

Joes Under 8

On Tues. 6th. July, the Joes Under 8 footballers played Stradbally from Laois on the hallowed turf of Croke Park. On a misty morning, local clubman Con Hanneffy took his bus of over 40 supporters; parents, grandparents, brothers & sisters with our ten young players on the road to Dublin.  Over the years many talented Joes players have graced Croke Park on famous days none more than Jimmy McDonnell our All-Ireland winner of 1957. However this was a first for an all Joes team guided by their nervous & excited Bainnisteoirí Des Small & Gary Marmion.

At 11.00am. the Joes team made their way from the dressing rooms that will be the base for our county team on Leinster Final Day. The game of two 15 minute halves was evenly balanced, however it was the ability of the Joes team to score points that gave them the advantage in a very enjoyable game.

After the final whistle the players climbed the steps of the Hogan Stand to experience that winning feeling of lifting the cup on final day.

The day was a fantastic experience for all the players involved: Rachel Connolly, Conall McCaul, Cathal Small, Conor Marmion, Conor Casey, Cian Conroy, Turlough McGeeney, Killian McNally, Jenny Quinn & Conor Knipe.

Special thanks to Sinéad Coyne for bringing it all together, from coaches kits to gathering everyone together to make it an enjoyable experience for all who travelled on the day.

Leinster Final Day

Congratulations to Alex Hanneffy on his selection to represent Louth at U12 in their half time match against Meath in Croke Park on the 11th. July.
