Juniors Score first Win of the Season

11 May 2010

The Joes Juniors scored a good win over the Malachis in the Division 4A League match, played at Cluskey Park on Tuesday evening. The match was very much even Steven on the scoreboard in the first half, but a small scoring burst before the interval was built on in the second half to secure a comprehensive win.

The Joes opened the scoring with a fine point from Paul Dromgoole, before the Malachis replied with a Ronan Lynch free. Peter Mulligan scored from play with six minutes gone, before the Joes lost Cian Smyth to injury. Another Lynch free put the Mals in front, before a point from play for full forward, put them in front for the first time. Drummer was again on the mark shortly after this, with a point from the left corner, before he set up David O Donoghue who restored the one point lead for the Joes. In the tit for tat scoring a Ronan Lynch point from play levelled the scores again, but the ball came straight down the field from the kickout and the move was finished with a Stephen Quigley point. Again, this came straight down the field and Mals levelled with a point from play to leave it at five points a piece coming up to half time. However, an Aidan Shaw point and an Alan Quigley goal within the space of a minute before the break, gave the Joes a comfortable half time lead.

Half Time Score: St Josephs 1-6, Naomh Malachi 0-5

It was all Joes in the second half, with the opening score being a family affair, with Daddy Stephen setting up son Alan for a Quigley point. Pete Mulligan won the kickout and Stephen Quigley was again on hand to set up the score, this time for Gary Mulligan. The next two points both came from the Alan Quigley dead balls, in both instances Paul Dromgoole having drawn the foul. With 18 minutes played in the half, goal chances appeared, first for Gary Kinahan and then for Aidan Shaw, when both were saved it was Drummer who was on hand to take the point. Unfortunately, Aidan Shaw was injured in the attack and had to be stretchered from the field, before been taken to hospital to have his knee checked out. An Alan Quigley point from play rounded off the Joes scoring, before a Ronan Lynch free before the end gave the visitors their only point of the half.
