Last Man Standing Competition - Week 2 Results

06 Mar 2010

Second weekend of fixtures have been played and we have had a dramatic fall off!! Largely due to one result. The Marshes in Newry swallowed up a total of 83 entries who thought that Down were the good thing of the weekend. Mind you there were 37 very lucky punters on Meath, who would be out only for Stephen Bray’s point deep in injury time and with the last kick of the game. I even cheered it on in person myself! Mind you, I wasn’t alone, a number of Louth people sided with the Royals, as well as few Galway, Kerry and Offaly men! Mind you the Dubs are the worst of the lot, one Dub, well known within the club even texted us “Come on Meath. What a team”. He will remain nameless, but you can work it for yourself.

Equally lucky were the 9 punters on Armagh, who threaded the same tightrope in Portlaoise. This wasn’t good enough to save the solitary Kilkerley man who bucked the trend and went for Laois! Even those on Cork, who had a nine point lead in the second half saw this whittled down to the point where they were glad to see an injury time Galway shot fly over rather than under the bar. Gary Kinahan has the now unique position of being the only one to be able to keep two teams going! Given that there are now only 73 entries left this puts Gary in a strong position!

What all of this boils down to is that people will have to think a lot more carefully this weekend. Now that Westmeath and Tipperary, have gone to Navan and Newry respectively and put it up to their much more vaunted opponents. Not to forget Armagh just about getting out of Portlaoise. Have a look at the fixtures this coming week, I really feel that we will have a lot more to fall this weekend.

And now to the roll of dishonor!!
Pat Mulligan remains the only member of the senior management team to keep himself upright, with Aidan Gorham, Enda Mc Keown and Stephen Melia all going Down! Some of the other fallers this week include:
- Father and Son Outfits: Paddy & Mark Dromgoole, Jim & Jason Hoey
- Players: Ollie Mc Donnell, Derek Mulligan (Capt), Conal O Hanlon, Jonny Mc Gailey
- Greats of 1996: Paddy O Connor & Enda Mc Keown
- Greats of 1971: Gerry Kinahan & Paul Murtagh
- Former County Secretary: Pat Hamilton
- The man with the purse strings: Tony Doherty

For those of you who like to form your own opinions and like the stats, then this is about as informative site as I have ever come across for GAA match stats. Very good for doing Head to Head comparisons, eg. NFL meetings of two counties over the last 10 years: http://www.gaainfo.com/compare.php

Best of Luck to those still standing.
