Last Man Standing Competition - Week 1 Results **UPDATED

14 Feb 2010

Thank you to all who promoted and entered this novel competition. All entries are now in and we had a good response. With total entries of 190, meaning that we are delighted to announce that we have revised the prize fund up to €450. Attached document contains all entries and their selections for week one.

With the first weekend of fixtures have been played and of the 190 starting out, 31 have fallen at the first fence!

Looking through them, we have Martin and Mary Byrne both gone, (I’d say that Sammy was trying to ride two horses and fell between both). Another notable casualty was Gerry Gorham, the only one of 190 people to pick Derry and it cost him dearly, another Ulster team took out daughter Aoife also, leaving just Yogi to fly the flag for this Gorham family (while Aidan Gorham manages all his five family members safely through the first obstacle!) Tyrone were the undoing of some, but not so for many of the Tyrone natives in the competition, who knew to avoid them this weekend! The O Connells lost Marion Conlon at this stage also, after picking an understrength and unwound Kerry team to travel to their fierce rivals and win! The one and only Joes player to go this week was BOD, so don’t go asking him for tips on the NFL at training. Two big clubmen and natives of Gailimh (Chairman Tom Dooley and Frank Killeen) were both served well by picking their home county, however, neither could bring their wives forward with them . As Kay Dooley was not served as well be her native Tipp and with no Louth team to pick, Maggie Killeen went with near neighbours Meath, who also came a cropper. Paddy Neary won’t have to be worrying about sending back selections from the continent has his snap decision to choose Tipp in week one didn’t pay off either.

PS:
If you want to read the thoughts of a GAA tipster to help you with your choices, then you could do worse than to subscribe to Kevin Egan’s Off the Ground Blog, he will normally have at least one post a week that may help you out! For those of you who like to form your own opinions and like the stats, then this is about as informative site as I have ever come across for GAA match stats. Very good for doing Head to Head comparisons, eg. NFL meetings of two counties over the last 10 years: http://www.gaainfo.com/compare.php
